JCS Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence

In response to the March 20, 2025, executive order impacting the U.S. Department of Education, Jefferson County Schools (JCS) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for all students and fostering the best possible working environment for our staff.

JCS remains dedicated to ensuring that every student receives the resources and support necessary to thrive academically and socially. While the federal government's restructuring of education oversight represents a significant shift, our focus remains on preparing our students for what comes next in their lives.

During the 2023-24 school year, JCS received $11,303,826 in federal funding. $7,804,750 of that funding was allocated from the U.S. Department of Education, including the remaining COVID-19 Education Stabilization Stimulus Funds. The U.S. Department of Agriculture provided $3,499,076 of that funding to support essential food programs for students.

For the 2024-25 school year, JCS anticipates receiving approximately $4 million in funding from the Department of Education, supporting critical programs such as IDEA (Special Education), Title Programs, Adult Education, and Career and Technical Education. Based on discussions with state and local representatives, JCS does not anticipate any funding reductions due to the Department of Education's restructuring.

"While the structural landscape of education funding may be evolving, our mission remains unchanged: to provide a world-class education for every student in Jefferson County," said Dr. Bishop, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools. "We will continue working closely with state and local leaders to ensure sustained support for our students and staff."

JCS also recognizes the importance of looking to the future and maintaining a responsive workforce that is adaptable to potential changes in education policy and funding. The district is committed to thoughtful financial planning and ensuring sustainable services that support student success.
