There is a Parent Advisory Committee meeting tonight at 5:30pm at NJES.
If you would like more input on how North Jefferson can help our families, if you would like more after school programs, or events or would like to have input on ways to improve the school please attend this meeting.
If you would like to attend this meeting via zoom please email Mrs. Ashworth at jaashworth@wv.k12.us. If you are unable to attend, but would like more information about the Parent Advisory Committee please email Mrs. Ashworth.

This week we want to talk about the importance of being on time, and staying for the entire school day. Did you know that every teacher, from K-5, is teaching something until 3:30pm?
Missed instructional time from tardies and early releases adds up quickly and can result in decreased academic achievement.
By avoiding tardies and early releases, you are helping to ensure your child's school success! If you have any questions or concerns related to attendance, please reach out to addison.tucker@k12.wv.us for support!
Respectfully,
Joyce Ashworth
Principal, North Jefferson Elementary

Good morning North Jefferson Elementary Families,
North Jefferson Elementary has been named a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school by the West Virginia Department of Education.
This means that over the next three years, our school will get extra help to keep improving. The WVDE will work with us by giving support in planning, training teachers, and providing resources that will help students learn and grow.
Families and the community will also play an important role in this process. Working together is the best way to make sure our students succeed.
We invite you to watch a short video that explains how schools receive this label and what it means for our school.
We will hold our Annual Title I Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 5:30 - 6:30 P.M. and invite you to attend to learn more about how we are supporting students, families, and teachers as we strive to reach our fullest potentials.
Respectfully,
Joyce Ashworth
North Jefferson Elementary Principal

We are back with more attendance-related facts and tips!
Did You Know?:
If a student misses school for any reason, the student must submit an absence note to the school upon returning to school to explain the absence. An absence is considered unexcused until the note is submitted. Parent and Guardians may submit an absence note online by visiting the JCS or their school’s website and clicking on “Submit an Absence.” Families may also submit a paper absence note to the school.

Thank you for everything you do to support your child's education!

Hello NJES families and friends,
One of our school's focuses this year is on improving school attendance. We know families work hard to make sure their child is at school, and sometimes life gets in the way. That is why we are committed to working with you to find solutions whenever possible. To support this, we'll be sharing weekly tips, facts, and resources.
This Week's Fact: Chronic Absenteeism
What it is: A child is considered "chronically absent" if they miss 10% or more of the school year. Missing just two days a month, for any reason, can put a student at risk.
Why it matters: It can negatively impact your child's learning and social development.
How we can help: The Communities in Schools partnership at NJES offers support to families. If you are struggling with attendance related issues, please contact Addison Tucker at addison.tucker@k12.wv.us so we can work together to find a solution.
Thank you for everything you do to support your child's education!

Tomorrow, September 24th from 5:30 to 6:30pm NJES is holding its first ever Homework Helpers night. The goal of this event is to support our students' learning at home. In an effort to better support families we will be handing out school supplies and backpacks. We will also be discussing i-Ready, which will be replacing Aims Web testing in our school this year. Students are welcome, and are invited to play games in the gym. We look forward to seeing all of our families!
Thank you,
Joyce Ashworth, NJES Principal
