JANUARY 31, 2024: We would like to provide an update on an external threat reported this morning. Working with our partners in law enforcement, Jefferson County Schools has learned that no credible threat existed to the communities of North Jefferson Elementary School, T.A. Lowery Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School, or Jefferson High School. Upon being detained, law enforcement determined that the suspect in question was training for the U.S. armed forces while wearing a weight belt and did not threaten any of our school communities. JANUARY 31, 2024: This morning, Jefferson County Schools received a report of an external safety threat in the Shenandoah Junction area. Law enforcement was notified and, as a result, North Jefferson Elementary School, T.A. Lowery Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School, and Jefferson High School were placed on secure status for approximately ten minutes. During that time, the suspect was apprehended and is now in custody. Thank you to our partners in law enforcement for working with us to put the safety of our students and staff first.
Due to the anticipated winter weather forecast, all Jefferson County schools and offices will be closed on Friday, January 19, 2024. Essential personnel should report. Due to the forecasted inclement weather, all Jefferson County Schools extracurricular activities taking place January 6-7 are canceled. This includes extracurricular activities, athletic practices, and competitions taking place at home or away. Any activities that are rescheduled will be communicated at a later date.
REMINDER: All Jefferson County Schools students will be dismissed two hours early this Thursday, December 21, 2023. Winter break begins on Friday and continues all next week. Students will return to class on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Have a safe and restful break.
