More STEAM Night fun!

North Jefferson's students, families and staff enjoyed an evening devoted to STEAM! Students participated in activities such as coding with Ozobots, painting with tuning forks, testing wind power, building amusement parks and more!

North Jefferson would like to give a big THANK YOU to Jefferson County's STEAM Team! They helped make North Jefferson's STEAM Night extra special!

4/20/23: North Jefferson Elementary School received a report of a small, contained fire this afternoon in the median off of North Point Avenue. There is NO DANGER to students or staff, but you may see fire trucks and other emergency vehicles responding near our school. We wanted to make you aware of the situation and ask for patience while emergency crews respond. Thank you.

Mrs. Carr's kindergartners enjoyed some hands-on math time.

Mrs. Ryder's first grade enjoyed listening to a guest speaker talk about rocks and minerals. They also made clay fossils and practiced being paleontologists by digging out chocolate chips from cookies.

Mrs. Kellenbach's and Mrs. Robertson's second graders wrapped up their U.S. Civil War studies. In honor of President Abraham Lincoln, second graders created log cabins and made stovepipe hats.

After reading The Adventures of Don Quixote, students in Ms. Long's class made story maps and created scripts of his adventures. Students used Ozobots to represent Don Quixote, and they programmed them to follow their maps.

Fourth-graders in Mrs. Harman's class problem solved together with Spike LEGOs.

Our first-graders learned about the Earth's layers in some fun, hands-on ways!

Thank you to Dr. Deborah Rochefort for her Colonial America presentation! Fourth-graders learned about Colonial life, textiles, and made individual clothing freshener bags.

How do you make reviewing sounds a little more engaging? By having students race to the correct sound! Mrs. Nugent recently had her kindergartners listen for the sounds they heard at the beginning, middle, and end of words, and then students raced to the letter that represented that sound.

Ms. Potts' first graders may not have trapped any leprechauns, but they sure had fun engineering towers and bridges to see whose contraption could hold the most pennies.

It was a real whodunit in Ms. Truman's fourth grade class! Student deputies entered the "crime scene" and sifted through evidence to determine which side was guilty in the case of the Boston Massacre. Keep up the good work, student deputies!

North Jefferson took time to celebrate one of its STARS today. Mrs. Kristi Sanders, Reading and Math Interventionist at North Jefferson, was Jefferson County's first recipient of the Above and Beyond Award! West Virginia Public Broadcasting's Education Director, Maggie Holley, presented Mrs. Sanders with a signature Blenko Glass apple paperweight, a monetary prize, a t-shirt, and a certificate. Teachers from around the state are nominated for this award. Mrs. Sanders was chosen because of her hard work and dedication to the students of North Jefferson. Congratulations, Mrs. Sanders! Thank you for being a STAR!

3/15/23: Our priority at North Jefferson Elementary School is safety, and we recognize that sharing accurate information with you is critical to that work. Today, Mar. 15, our staff called law enforcement officers to our school to support a student. We are grateful for their quick response and ongoing partnership. There is NO DANGER to students or staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to protect and support everyone in our school.

March 10, 2023: Due to the anticipated timing of inclement weather, all Jefferson County Schools and Offices will be closed today. Students will return on Tuesday, March 14, following Monday's staff development day. Thank you.

After wrapping up their unit on the Solar System, Ms. Potts' first graders put their knowledge and writing skills to the test. They used their background knowledge to construct paragraphs about Outer Space. What would you do if you went to Outer Space?

Albert Einstein said, "Play is the highest form of research." Mrs. Nugent's kindergartners combined their love of building with the knowledge they're learning about Columbus and the early settlers. These friends used gigantic magnetic tiles to build settlements. What fun way to learn through play!

What do you get when you combine marshmallows, chocolate candies, and graham crackers? If you're in Mrs. Harman's fourth grade class, you get an edible model of a sedimentary rock. What a delicious way to learn!
